‘Return To The Wild’ By Kai & Sunny
04.06.10 - 27.06.10
Kai and Sunny are a prolific,
multidisciplinary design duo, whose work
appears in many arenas of art. Their work has won them multiple
accolades, including a D&AD award in illustration/design.
‘Return To The Wild’ was the follow-up show to ‘What A Wonderful World’, exhibited at the StolenSpace Gallery London in January 2009. Like ‘What A Wonderful World’, Kai and Sunny continue to explore the feelings that nature can project. Their new body of work in ‘Return To The Wild’ goes further, capturing landscapes that we know don’t exist and yet convey that feeling of ‘déjà vu’. That’s because these large scale series of prints come from a more emotional point of view that hits the viewer on a visceral level.
Throughout history, there are preconceived ideas of how certain landscapes are intended to make us feel: Should birds in flight always give us an uplifting feeling? Does the sun always dance magically on the water? Through their uniquely intricate, geometrical style, Kai and Sunny challenge these clichés. That’s not to say these feelings of nature don’t exist, but Kai and Sunny are here to show their viewers the antithesis and everything in between.
‘Return to the Wild’ saw the release of a limited edition screen print along with an equally suitable soundtrack created by Unkle’s Pablo.
