Opening Reception Saturday June 10th, 2017 6-9pm

CAVE Gallery 55 North Venice Blvd. Venice California 90291

Exhibition on through June 30th

StolenSpace Gallery is proud to promote our friends Mando Marie and Hyland Mather’s new show, This Is Why I’m Such A Mess, at CAVE Gallery. The works are inspired by their travels around the Cali Coast, Spanish Coast and Portugese Coast, with the colours, shapes and ideas having been influenced by the waves of the ocean.

‘Flipsides’

A new way of partnership collaboration, with one side of these painted banners having Mather’s simple, flat, geometric shapepile paintings, and the other side having one of Mando’s beautiful illustrative pieces.

‘Vintage Book Covers’

Mando Marie uses old book covers to pair the right imagery with a fitting title . The colours of these old hardcovers informed on which colours would be used in the whole show. Like nearly all of the work, these pieces have ocean side symbolism.

‘Cali Beaches’

Hyland Mather pays homage to the many trips had along the Cali coast. The laser cut pieces are made from a single sheet of found wood

‘Sea Ideas’

A series of small lost object sculptures, forming an ongoing exploration of these small style free standing pieces. Each one is a quick single idea about shape and form, reminiscent of sails, boats, fins, waves or flags. All the sculptures have been laser etched with little shapes and symbols, and the wood was collected in Portugal, Spain and off the street heaps in Amsterdam.
