Kofie’s style is truly unique in its ability to approach the outer limits of graffiti art, taking inspiration from futurism to create something visually extraordinary.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Augustine Kofie’s first instinct to draw was inspired through the creativity of his mother. Whilst she studied fine arts at UCLA, Kofie used the spare supplies around his house to start experimenting on his own. His real training as an artist was then nurtured through his time spent painting graffiti, coming to prominence in the LA graffiti art scene by the mid 1990’s. Graffiti provided a technical foundation and love of construction and form.
Inspired by the basic building blocks of the geometric world, Kofie has formed a retro-futuristic aesthetic which transplants shapes and angles into an organic, yet highly mathematical form of abstraction. Merging his traditional education and graffiti, Kofie plays with form and line, with balance and depth, twisting and manipulating his compositions, into dramatic and futuristic arrangements.
