StolenSpace Gallery is pleased to present Geoffrey Bouillot’s new solo exhibition ‘Tokyoverse’. Bouillot is a French artist based in Tokyo, Japan. He is known for his monochromatic figurative paintings, characterised by clean lines and a contemporary aesthetic. Heavily influenced by his multicultural background, and a merging of Manga, Pop Art, Cubism and Italian Futurism, Bouillot continuously seeks to blend different styles and techniques that make up for his signature style. His deliberate and unconditional use of black and white allows him to focus on the form and texture of his subjects, capturing their essence without distraction.

In ‘Tokyoverse’ Bouillot draws inspiration from the vibrant street-style culture of Tokyo. Starting as a subculture in the backstreets of Harajuku, Japanese street fashion has changed a lot over the years and is still very prominent in Tokyo today. Bouillot aims for a more streamlined and minimalist approach here, incorporating a monochromatic background. Showcasing female figures with an emphasis on fashion, and flower compositions with a futuristic approach, he cleverly transcribes and uses the shapes and forms of clothing to create a sense of volume and depth in the artwork. Immersed in the fashion and creativity of his Japanese contemporaries, Bouillot invites us in his geometric, monochromatic, but not least vibrant world of shiny textures and enchanting compositions, reminiscent of the urban fashion districts of Tokyo.
