This series is inspired by the time when I first started skateboarding, around 1998. Back then, 411VM had a huge influence on me and my friends. On weekends we would often sit together and watch 411 videos, which created a strong connection and nostalgia around that era. Now that I have the opportunity to create artworks, I wanted to bring the visual language and spirit of 411VM into this piece.
The work is titled “DESTROY TO CREATE.” It is designed in the format of a VHS tape cover. The piece reflects on the relationship between skateboarding and the environment, raising the question of how skateboarding and nature can coexist sustainably. Since skateboards are made from wood, which comes from trees, the idea is that if we take from nature to create skateboards, we should also give back by replanting and restoring trees, so that skateboarding and nature can continue to exist together in a sustainable way.
