Monk’s artworks play with illusion, making the viewer question what they perceive, and evoke feelings of nostalgia for an uncertain past.

British artist Simon Monk is a contemporary, hyper-realistic painter. He is best known for his artworks composing of pop-culture references held static in plastic bags, and envelopes of crumpled and creased comic strip references. Monk’s artworks play with illusion, making the viewer question what they perceive, and evoke feelings of nostalgia for an uncertain past.

 

He received a BFA from Camberwell in 1989, before pursuing an academic career in teaching Art History, he is now a full time artist displaying his work in exhibitions across the USA, Europe, and the UK. 

 

His artwork for the album ‘Ants From Up There’ by Black Country, New Road won an award in 2023 for ‘Best Creative Packaging’ at the Libera Awards, New York City.
