My two paintings revolve around the theme of the hydrosphere. ”Hydrosphere” comes from the Ancient Greek (húdōr) for water and (sphaîra) for globe, referring to all water on Earth. Like many glaciers worldwide, Sweden's 250 glaciers are melting faster than they can recover during winter. This imbalance is changing Arctic ecosystems and also affecting downstream ecosystems.

My works depict old oak trees shaped like skeletons, a Black woodpecker which is Europe’s largest woodpecker species and both a white and a black butterfly. According to folklore, if the first butterfly you saw in a year was a white, such as the Apollo, it signified a successful and bright year ahead. However, seeing a black butterfly such as the Mourning Cloak, was a harbinger of bad events.

The enhanced contrasts in how water circulates: freezing; melting; vaporising; and falling back down, are redrawing how the world looks and functions, challenging the resilience of our societies. It is not a matter of believing in tales, but of how one experiences one’s immediate environment.
