In Yolked To (2025) the artist discusses the emotional complexities of womanhood. The title, a
play on the word ‘yoked’, is defined as the linking or joining together, often in a way of being
bound or constrained. The piece implies the binding between disparate sides through the lens of
an egg; one side being pristine in its portrayal whilst the other has been contaminated by the
presence of a fly and the depiction of a small blood spot. The artist uses the egg as a metaphor
to express her personal relationship to womanhood and the expectations of gender often
associated with it. This topic has become increasingly relevant to the artist, especially living in
America under its current political climate where women’s bodily autonomy remains a critical
contemporary issue.
