The Convict first appeared in Tiger Mask, a Japanese wrestling manga and anime series from 1968. As the name suggests, he is literally a wrestler dressed as a prisoner. I actually chose this character because I thought he had the most interesting connection to skateboarding history. There is a famous photograph of Mark Gonzales taken on Alcatraz Island where he is wearing a prison uniform. That connection immediately came to mind, and I felt The Convict could create an interesting link between the character and skate culture.
